How to Use Your Philips HD4938/01 Induction Cooktop
Place & Plug: Set the cooktop on a flat, stable, heat‑resistant surface with at least 10 cm clearance for ventilation. Plug into a 230V outlet (preferably a 15A dedicated socket).
Place Compatible Cookware: Use induction‑compatible cookware (magnetic base – stainless steel or cast iron). Flat bottom, diameter 12‑20 cm. Test with a magnet.
Power On: Press the power button. The sensor touch panel lights up.
Select a Preset: Press the desired preset (e.g., “Dal”, “Dosa”, “Milk”). The cooktop sets default power and time.
Adjust (Optional): Use the +/- keys to adjust temperature (100‑240°C) or set the timer (0‑3 hours).
24‑Hour Preset Timer: To schedule cooking, set your desired preset and time, then press the “Preset” button and set the hour when cooking should start (up to 24 hours later).
Start Cooking: The induction will heat. The cool‑to‑touch surface ensures safety.
After Use: Turn off and unplug. Let the internal cooling fan run (it may continue for a minute). Clean the glass after it has cooled.
Pro Tip: For milk, use the “Milk” preset – it intelligently adjusts power to prevent boil‑over. For dosa, the “Dosa” preset gives the perfect heat for even browning.
Why Choose the Philips Viva Collection HD4938/01 Induction Cooktop?
This induction cooktop stands out for its combination of high power (2100W), Indian‑centric presets (10 menus), and premium build (full‑glass sensor touch) . While many inductions offer basic presets, the Philips presets are intelligently tuned for Indian dishes – the “Milk” preset avoids boil‑over, the “Dosa” preset ensures even crisping, and the “Pressure Cook” preset simulates the heat curve of a traditional pressure cooker. The 24‑hour delay timer is a rare feature at this price point, letting you schedule meals like a slow cooker. The full‑glass panel is not just stylish – it’s easier to clean than models with plastic frames. With 2100W power, you get near‑instant heating. If you want a fast, smart, and safe induction cooktop that understands Indian cooking, the Philips Viva Collection is the clear choice.

Q4: Does the milk preset really prevent boil‑over?
A: Yes, the “Milk” preset intelligently adjusts power levels to heat milk evenly without sudden boil‑over. However, always monitor the first few times to understand your vessel’s behaviour .
Q5: Is the fan noisy?
A: The internal cooling fan is powerful to protect the 2100W electronics. It may be audible during high‑power cooking and continues for a minute after shut‑off – normal for high‑wattage inductions .

A: Common codes: E0 (no pan), E3/E4 (voltage fluctuation – check power supply), E5/E6 (overheating – let cool). Unplug for 30 minutes to reset. For persistent codes, contact Philips support (1800 572 1800).

Another addition to the kitchen with induction cooktop from this brand, and coming from HD4928, this is definitely an upgrade with touch buttons, elegant design, and full glass top. All my HD4928’s malfunctioned due to water seepage inside from the joint between glass and control panel. This particular model, HD2938 with full glass top addresses the issue to some extent.

➕ PROS
••••••••••••
1. Stylish & durable cooktop for the kitchen with full glass top
2. Works great with lots of preset options for cooking
3. Works with a good range of iron/magnetic base cookware, bottom diameter 12-20cm
4. Touch buttons are easy to operate and red led above each button indicates the option selected
5. Manual mode in any induction is kind of a blessing to have full control over the cooking process. This ones the most used mode in my kitchen
6. Many preset modes can also be adjusted as per the required temperature and cooking time.
7. +/- can be used to adjust both temperature and timer
8. Childlock feature, which can be used to prevent accidental presses. This thing is a blessing for lets say milk boiling, to prevent spillage due to accidental press and high power leading to sudden rise of milk levels
9. Theres direct shortcut to sim/boil/reheat milk or water
••••••••••••
➖ CONS
••••••••••••
1. This model slips a lot on the platform as there are no rubber shoes on the 4 legs. I don’t understand the reason behind omission of such an important thing. Brands PMs really need to think through.
2. Didnt like the red LEDs above all buttons, it could have been made more aesthetic for such a premium device. Theres a big tranparent zone for every LED on the glass top and you can actually see those 10mm Red LEDs, which actually looks ugly. In this era of SMDs, they are still using 10mm ones.
3. Price is on the higher side for not much of feature upgrade from HD4928. Could have been better designed.
For these cons deducting one star. So a 4-star ★★★★ device.

USAGE TIPS
•••••••••••••••
→ Use utensils with induction base only. Normal steel utensils also work but are very less efficient. Aluminium ones won’t work here.
→ The glass plate gets hot during usage. Handle it with caution. The residual heat indicator remains on to show the status of heat.
→ Use child lock to prevent accidental touches, which may lead to improper cooking or even a disaster. These touches are not just limited to children.
→ Keep vents clean and have sufficient space around induction, for it to have proper forced air circulation. It’s an important process to keep the internals cool as its all electronics inside.
•••••••••••••••••••••
IMPORTANT ADVICE
•••••••••••••••••••••
→ Never ever let liquid spill on the induction. It’s the major cause of failures in the cooktops. Even though they have addressed that issue in this model, by having full glass top, but still theres a small overlap of 5-7m on both ends of glass, which may lead to water or liquid seepage and damage the electronic circuit there.

🏆 VERDICT

This goes by the name and will not disappoint wrt quality and performance of the product. Its one of the best inductions in the market, both looks and functionality wise.

This is a very bad product. Even after paying this much price it is not working properly. Also the service from Philips India is very bad. The service man came 15 days after I booked the complaint and he was also unable to fix it. Please don’t buy it. Please request Amazon to fix my problem.

This is a top-notch item – elegantly designed with tough and scratch-resistant glass top. I use it everyday to boil milk, water and with moderate general purpose cooking. Heats quickly (and cools off quickly too). Easy cleaning. Light weight and easily portable. Just make sure that you use flat-bottom utensils that are compatible with induction stoves. Multiple power settings make it easier to multi-task. The milk will boil and spill within minutes on high power settings if not watched over.
